Putting It All Together

dsc_0900The Frugalitarian™ is all about living a more meaningful life, and in the grand scheme of things, looking more fashionable is hardly the route to fulfillment .  But here’s the thing:  we tend to feel better about ourselves when we look better.  Working out, an updated haircut and new outfit are signs we like to take care of ourselves.

That’s the real goal.  Not to be noticed or even known for our fashion sense, but to feel better about ourselves and remember that it’s good to be alive.

  • Let the hairstylist decide.  I go to an Aveda beauty school and a student about to graduate will color and cut my hair.  They’re very trendy, like to update hairstyles and the cost is reasonable.  If left to my own devices, this 80’s girl would still be getting giant perms.  If we give in to the notion that they know best, we often end up looking better.  It’s just hair anyway.
  • A new outfit.  Unless you have a long skinny neck, almost everyone looks better in v-necks.  And everyone looks good in black.  After you get your trendy new haircut, get yourself a black v-neck shirt or sweater, throw on some flared jeans and open toe sandals with a little heel and you’re 75% there…
  • A big colorful purse and some dangly earrings.  Shiny brick red or animal print green purses look great with this very basic outfit.  They become sculptural.  Get yourself a big slouchy purse and only put a few essentials in it (a full purse loses its beauty).  Then, top it all off with dangly earrings.  Nothing huge.  Just a hint of bling and let the day begin.
