Great Value and a Wisconsin Treasure
Braise on the Go offers culinary classes at farms and orchards across Wisconsin. Chef Dave Swanson takes participants on tours of the locations where food is grown, harvests fresh ingredients and ends the tours by teaching a cooking class under a white tent. For the grand finale, students sample seasonal recipes they’ve just learned to prepare al fresco.
The Braise 2010 schedule is full of great classes in beautiful settings. Coming up, Sunday September 12, Tour de Farms 2010. It's a 35-mile leisurely bike ride touring farms in Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties. The ride starts at the Jeff-Leen Farm in Random Lake with pastries, coffee and energy drinks. Then, bike along the river and visit one or two other farms, stocked with replenishments, shady spots for napping and exciting places to explore and learn about farming.
For those who like biking, but perhaps not 35 miles of it, a shorter alternative route will be available.
Cap off the day with a farm dinner of local and seasonal products. Everyone- farmers, cyclists and chefs- will sit down and eat. For more info on Braise or to register for Tour de Farms, click www.braiselocalfood.com.
